- See yourself as God sees you
God sees you as precious. David says, "For I'm fearfully and wonderfully made". First Peter 2 verse 9 says, "For you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and God's special possession..."
- Give yourself Grace
As solo moms, our tendency is to berate ourselves about our past mistakes. We've become experts at negative self-talk. Remember that Jesus forgave the woman who was caught in adultery. Even though the punishment was to be stoned. Jesus told her, "neither do I condemn you". So learn to give yourself grace.
- Practice Positive Self Talk
How often do you talk bad to yourself? I'm ugly. I'm damaged goods. I'm too fat. The words may seem harmless but they're not. If you think you're overweight, do something about it. But don't bring yourself down with negative words.
- Reject Bad Treatment
Stop letting other people define how you view yourself. Whether it was a parent or ex, don't give anyone power over how you feel about yourself. These people can be what Dr. Roberta Shaler calls hijackals. Don't let them hijack your life.
“Your life is not a democracy. It’s a dictatorship. You decide what happens. Not other people”.
- Give Thanks
If you're giving thanks for what you have or are, you don't have a lot of room for negative self-talk. Be grateful for even the smallest of things. Each day find even one thing you're grateful for. You will soon discover there numerous things you could be thankful for having or being.
